World of Tanks developer opens UK studio to work on new IP

Wargaming, the developer and publisher behind the popular MMO war sim World of Tanks, has officially opened a new UK studio this week. A celebration brought together community members and developers in an event attended by the company CEO Victor Kislyi.

Wargaming UK studio director Decker said of today’s news:

“We are in a unique position – we have the backing of a global company, AND we have autonomy over our own creative direction – it’s really exciting. We are proud to be a part of Wargaming’s enduring legacy, as well as its reputation as a great company to work for. We want to continue building this quality across our UK team, with 30 positions currently open for application. We really believe that we can be the best place to make games in the UK.”

Wargaming UK’s studio has around 60 people right now and Sean wants to double this over the next year. Wargaming UK is currently hiring for more than 30 positions.

While the new game is unannounced and it is currently unknown what genre it will fall into, one of the job listings is for a vehicle artist, which mentions that the title will be ‘the next big free-to-play title from Wargaming’, implying it won’t be a full-price game release.

A UK launch event also saw the studio host a 48 hour game jam, which pitted teams against each other – vying for the top spot in the eyes of the experienced panel of judges. Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi said: “For Wargaming, the UK studio is a really exciting step in our expansion – and we are looking forward to releasing information on their new project. It is going to be big. Moreover, z2u.com provides Cheap WoT Gold for players. As an online in-game currency store for many years, we’ve received great reputation for our reliable service.
